Removal Instructions:
Vinyl lettering is easy to remove. Just simply use a hair blow dryer to loosen the letters from the surface. Peel the letters away. If necessary, use a mild soap to remove any existing residue and you are ready for a new phrase!
Please use caution when removing decals. Depending on the age or condition of the painted surface underneath, some touch ups may be necessary. Vinyl wall lettering is not reuseable.
*These layers will be held together with masking tape to prevent slippage during shipping. Your decal may come in several pieces, installation for the second piece will be the same as the first. Slowly unroll and lay your design on a flat surface and allow your decal to warm to room temperature before attempting to apply. You will need to cut the masking tape off of both ends of your decal, cut along the edge of the tape being careful not to cut your vinyl design.
*NOTE: We will not accept a returned item once the masking tape has been cut off.
Clean the application surface well to avoid dust and oil under the vinyl.
*Larger and long decals will require an extra set of hands, or you may choose to cut your lettering apart and apply in smaller sections. Just cut a square around each section through backing paper and transfer tape being careful not to cut into your vinyl design.
Measure and Mark: Without removing the backing, measure and align your three layered decal exactly in the position it is to be located on your wall. *Please align your decal placement from the actual vinyl and not the paper backing as the backing may not be cut in an exact straight line.
Place a masking tape marker in each of the top corners of the decal making sure that half of your marker goes on the wall while the other half stays on top of the clear transfer tape. This will be your placement guide for the next step. Slit or cut the masking tape that you just applied to your wall and decal right at the edge of the paper backing leaving half of the masking tape marker on the wall and the other half on the clear tape.
Smooth and RUB: For ease of application this step is important. With the decal on a smooth surface, facing up and readable, use your hand to rub across all of the lettering various times. Work over the lettering horizontally and vertically smoothing out all the air bubbles in the clear tape making sure the vinyl is laying flat. Make sure your masking tape marker stays in place.
Next turn your decal facedown on the table and using your squeegee tool apply very firm steady pressure across the paper backing area of the decal. A plastic straight edged ice scraper works great if you do not have a squeegee tool. Go over it several times both horizontally and vertically. You can’t do this too much or too lightly - this is to make sure the vinyl sticks to the application tape. While the decal is still face down, start to gently peel off the paper backing away from the transfer tape at an angle making sure all the vinyl lettering stays on the transfer tape. If you see any of the vinyl not sticking to the transfer tape, stop and carefully press the paper backing to the transfer tape at that specific point. Press and rub firmly on the problem spot with your thumbnail, repeating as necessary until the paper backing is totally clear of the transfer tape. You should now have two layers - the clear transfer tape and the vinyl layer that is adhered to the transfer tape.
Apply to Wall: Holding the top two corners of the decal, vinyl side facing wall, line up your two markers being very careful to not let the bottom portion of the decal to fall freely against the surface. Here a second pair of hands could come in handy by holding the bottom of the decal away from the wall so that it will not touch the wall while you line up the markers. Once you are lined up secure the transfer tape to the wall at the top by smoothing all the way across from the markers up. Starting at the top, press the decal to the wall with your hands, slowly sliding downward and outward until you get to the bottom. Now take a few moments to go over the vinyl areas with your hands pressing the vinyl firmly to the wall.
Start in a corner and SLOWLY pull the transfer tape away from the wall at a sharp angle. If the transfer tape begins to lift a letter off the wall, carefully press the lettering and transfer tape back to the wall at that specific point. Press firmly on the problem spot with your thumb. Begin again to peel down and away. Depending on your surface, you may have to roll the transfer tape off of the lettering while holding the edge of the decal to the wall with your finger. Some smaller or detailed fonts will take a little more work and patience to get it all off the application tape. After the transfer tape is removed gently push your finger along the vinyl to make sure it is adhered to the wall.
After the transfer tape is removed: You may use a blow dryer on high heat about 6” away from the wall to warm a small section of the design. Rub the design down with your finger tips.
*Blow drying the vinyl will give it a professional, painted-on look and will help make it conform to a more textured surface. With a little patience the vinyl will conform to most wall textures.
*NOTE: Your vinyl decal will come layered between two other pieces:
Top Layer - Clear transfer tape
Middle Layer - Your vinyl design
Bottom Layer - White shiny wax backing paper
